Cleaning the Air Flow Meter ( AFM )

Wassup Readers, today's topic is about cleaning your car's Air Flow Meter and it is also known as AFM. Have you guys heard of it? It is possible to clean up the Clogged AFM to get some better readings but you must beware while taking care when it comes to cleaning it.

I can see that this is the part that not many people will take high priority on when it comes to cleaning the AFM, O2 Sensor aka Oxygen Sensor wears out over time like any other component that you installed due to the high heat and usage of it. Most car has it installed but they are not aware of the behavior of it. It is important because once the O2 sensor is unable to give an accurate measurements of Oxygen in the exhaust gas, it means the car can't properly adjust its variables such as Air/Fuel Mixture and the timing to give the optimal performance yet fuel economy to the User / Driver.

I know many of you don't wish to waste so much money in pumping the petrol right? so why not have it check and cleaned it up when you have some free time to get a better performance yet a better Fuel efficiency for you ride.

Air Filter

Alright Readers, as you can see from the title above. I will be talking about some common knowledge about the air filter. It is a simple fact that a clean air filter is always works more efficient than the dirty ones.

So I shall cut the crap and back to the point. It is known that factory spec paper filter often does a marvelous job in comparison with other types of Air Filter available in the local market. The point is whether which one you're choosing, there are a few type of it such as Paper Type, Cotton Type, Oiled Type, Dry Typed, Panel or pod. Always be aware of the legality of the filter before installing it to avoid any Road offense by the Road and Transport (JPJ) people to have it dismantle for no reason.

It is best to have the air filter placed in the engine bay which is not too near to the engine and have it covered with Heat shield if there is really limited place for movement of the air filter to be placed. Last but not least, don't ever installed it in a strange position where the water can be scooped into it because the air filter must not be wet or else you will have engine failure for no reason.

It is easy if you are having a Drop in Filter whereby you will need to unclip the Air filter air box and change it which will only takes you around 1-2 minutes time so it's hassle free.

Suspension Bushes

Some might get doubts when they hear Suspension Bushes? What is the purpose of having it and why is it important? So as you can see, when year comes by ad your car's Suspension bushes gets older due to the wear and tear that we can't avoid from, it tends to get a higher chance of deterioration. This means, you have lighter yet uncomfortable driving experience in the area of Suspensions and also the Rigidity of the steering.

In some cases, simply replacing these fix mild handling complaints that a wheel alignment may not. so my point is, if you want to change your bushes then why not change to something like Polyurethane versions as it is slightly firmer compares to rubber or upgrading to aluminium or solid types.

Most people tends to change their bushes to the Solid bushes or Silicon bushes that is available in the market and that's not necessary unless you are planning to have it just for track drive so it is recommended for it. Besides that, changing bushes is just simply easy, it includes in the new tie-rods, tie-rod ends and things you can bolt on to.

My advice is just be more gentle with the throttle and avoid any potholes if necessary in order to have a longer life span of the Suspension bushes.

I will do more research on it so do check out more updates from this column yeah. Signing off by JLean @ http://undercoverproject.blogspot.com/

Under the new system for less serious traffic offence, The new structure involving all enforcement agencies is Amended and to be used under Road Transport Act.

As told from the press, 'The more you delay, the more you pay'- this is the principle that has been approved by the Cabinet in the restructuring and streamlining of fines issued for traffic offences deemed less serious.

Transport Minister Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha said the new structure would be used for all offences under the Road Transport Act, and involve all enforcement agencies, including local authorities. He said under the restructured system that will affect all fines issued from March 1st , traffic offences will be divided into four categories, based on the seriousness of the offences.

1. "Fines for offences under the first category will be maintained at RM300 (with no discounts), even if settled within 60 days as they involve offences contributing to a high accident and fatality rate".

- Offences such as Speeding, Beating traffic lights, Overtaking on double lines, Tailgating, Queue-jumping, Overtaking in the Emergency lanes and using Mobile phones while Driving.

2. However, motorcycles below 250cc would be subjected to lower fines for the three categories, he added.
The second category under the new structure will involve active offences closely linked to negative driving habits and technical offences involving the vehicle that can lead to accidents. Fines under this category will be RM100, RM150 and RM250 for the small-capacity motorcycles and RM150, RM200 and RM300 for all other vehicles if they are paid within the first 15 days, between 16 and 30 days and between 31 and 60 days respectively.

3. The third category will involve passive offences closely linked to technical offences involving the vehicles that can increase the risk of accidents to other motorists or leave the vehicle itself no longer roadworthy. Fines under this category will be RM50, RM100 and RM150 for motorcycles below 250cc and RM100, RM150 and RM250 for all other vehicles if they are paid within the first 15 days, between 16 and 30 days and between 31 and 60 days respectively.

4. The last category involves offences not posing a threat of an accident, like failing to park properly. The fines will be RM40, RM70 and RM120 for motorcycles below 250cc and RM70, RM120 and RM150 for all other vehicles if they are paid within the first 15 days, between 16 and 30 days and between 31 and 60 days respectively.

"The amount will be multiplied if the offences are committed three times or more within a two-month period under the first, second and third categories or any combination of the categories." Kong said, adding that the offences will be filed in court if the fines are not settled within 60-days of being issued.
He also said motorists will not be issued demerit points if they settle outstanding fines within three months. Kong said the new structure was the result of the brainstorming at the National Key Results Area laboratory on traffic offences and had been agreed upon by all the enforcement agencies as well as non-govermental organisations representing the various groups of drivers.

Toyota Landcruiser Prado

As you can see from the Front view of the Toyota Landcruiser Prado Turbo, it looks stock standard and simple without any doubt but ones you pop up the hood, you will be amazed with the modification done on this 4WD Ride.

Once you pop up the Front hood of this Toyota Landcruiser Prado, You can see that it is installed with a Toyota 2.5l VVT-i Engine equipped with a Medium Size Intercooler to cools down the turbo due to the high compression produced by the turbine. As you can see, all the piping has been changed from stock standard rubber compound to Silicon Piping which can resist a higher temperature and has a longer lifespan compare to the normal ones. The standard OEM Air filer has been changed to Open Pod Air filter in producing a higher output by driving in more air during while the engine is running.

New Rules to be Amend On Road Safety

As heard from the news and said by Penang Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Datuk Hassan Yaacob, The Vehicle Alterations without permission is said to be illegal in the Section 66 of the Road Transport Act 1987.

However, Datuk Hassan Yaacob did not address the issue of factory-fitted  DVD Players in the vehicle but would only say that the department would have to look into it.

Hassan said enforcement teams would go around to check if vehicles had complied with approved specifications.

Those with Xenon headlights will be fined RM300 while vehicles with fancy number plates will be fined RM120.

In the end, the car owners waste money by paying thrice – fixing the parts, paying the fine and paying again to remove them.
