Battery Corrosion: Getting rid within 5 Mins, HOW?

Dear Readers,

Have you ever wonder what's the icy White/ Blue/ Turqoise thing on top of the battery terminal. This is what we call Corrosion.

Corrosion happens on the terminals due to the hydrogen gas being released from the acid in the battery. Do take note, chemical reaction do happens when the battery is heated up by charging and discharging when you starts the car. The mixes with other things/ particles from the atmosphere under the hood of the car produces this corrosion which you see it on the battery terminal.

Generally got this information from other source. If the corrosion is occurring on the negative terminal / -ve terminal, Your system is probably undercharging.

What's undercharging. Undercharging in a nut shell means that the car is less travel/ started. Therefore, the battery can't be charge and discharge in an optimum condition.

Let's cut the story short, I will give you a tips on getting rid of all this Corrosion build up on the battery terminal by just doing one thing and it will just take you less than 5 mins of your life.

Things to prepare:
1. [Optional] Damp cloth / unused cloth ( For Wiping purposes )
2. A jug of HOT water

Steps:
1. Pour the hot water directly onto the terminal which you see the corrosion build up.
2. Due to some OCDs, I will wipe it dry with the damp cloth which I have prepare, it's optional though as it will dry up quickly by time.
3. Just so if you have a WD40 which is a multipurpose lubricant, you can actually spray some on the terminal after getting everything done.

BASIC Maintenance TIPS during MCO period in MALAYSIA [Applicable to all countries]

Dear Readers,

We know life's hard with the current MCO (Movement control Order)/ PKP (Perintah Kawalan Perjalanan) being enforced by the goverment whereby each individual is advisable to stay at home unless it's a necessary for one personnel from the household to get the necessary essentials.

Do take note MCO stands for Movement Control Order and not "MUST COME OUT". Don't get it wrong. If you owned a vehicle or more. But you can only used it during the necessary time. Do take note on this few tips to save you the $$.

TIPS:
1. Get the car started even if you are not driving it out "ONCE" every 3 days for 15-20mins. The reason of this is because the battery of your car will have some current leak and don't forget the car is attached with the electronic devices such as Alarm System, Dash Cam ( Unplug it if not in use as some brands has a 24/7 on function which eventually drain the battery without you knowing. ).

2. Get the tyre pumped. This is because from time to time, there will be air leaking out from the tyre of yours neither it's new or it has been used for awhile. Air may leaks due to puncture/nail and etc but most commonly and undetected is from the air valve tube. So get the pressure to the tyre more since it's going to be there for quite awhile so lifting the car away from the surface more is better than getting it stagnant.

3. Lift up the Wiper Holder. Most of the commonly used Wipers for most of the cars are standard original rubber type. Even if you have replaced it with the aftermarket ones which are the silicone type. Do lift it up so it won't be stagnant too long on the windshield/Windscreen of the car. Not all the car are parked indoor so no harm lifting it up even if it's parked indoor.

4. Put up Sun Shades. Putting up sun shades for the car is good to preserve the dashboard condition of the car and also reduce the heat / IR /UV entering the vehicle. As the technology goes more advance, Items seems to be more renewable/biodegradable, so some nice and expensive cars are already adapting to the Bio-Degradable material for their components for their interiors. Some may know the brands but I wouldn't want to let know the brand as you can search it easily and not harming the brand's reputation.

There are more tips to be shared. But this are the common ones that can be easily done by all.

Signing off.

Thanks,
JLean

Proton X70 [Battery Size and Battery Location]

Dear Readers,

Guess most of you guys have came across with Proton new model which is the Proton X70.

Although the car is New but some of the sneak peak in revealing the location of the Proton X70's Battery location of what Battery Size is currently used for the vehicle.

Proton X70 is a redesigned model based on the existing Geely Boyue which is already in the China Market for sometime. But Proton did make some changes and by changing some of the part such as the new grill design, amendment on the lower bodykit and the rear long batch which shows the Proton wording and the lower diffuser at the lower bumper that adds in the style to the whole new Proton X70.

Let me reveal the location of the battery. The Engine Bay for this new Proton X70 is fully covered to reduce the engine noise towards the cabin area which is a superb design and truly make an effect for the consumer to have a disturbance / noise coming from it. Besides that, the full cover up of the engine bay do looks more stylish and nicer, making it sleek and clean.

As you can see, there's a clip open cover located at the lower right hand side, that's the location of where the battery is located. By simply using a gentle finger and unclip it, you will be able to remove the cover and see the battery located underneath.

The Battery size used in this existing vehicle is a Brand Varta Din55L, 60Ah battery with a Cold Cranking Amp (CCA) of 550

In Summary, Proton has not been using Continental / European type of battery since the model Proton Satria Neo, Proton Gen 2, and Proton Persona (Before 2016) model which are using DIN55R type of battery due to design.

Disclaimer: [ This picture is captured during an Autoshow event ]
So you may take note that the new Proton X70 will be using this spec of battery:
Battery Size: DIN55L (Positive on the Left side)
Ampere Henry (Ah): 60
Cold Cranking Ampere (CCA): 550

(May 2020)
Latest update on the Battery.
Current installed on the Proton X70 models in the market currently is the DIN66L model by Proton OEM.

Therefore the suitable battery will be either DIN66/  DIN72/ DIN75 or equivalent size.

Hybrid Battery/Charge/Braking Information

Introduction:
Hybrid batteries are responsible for supplying electrical power to the electric motor and the remaining accessories of the vehicle such as the air conditioner and the lighting system. The technology responsible for today's battery advancements have been the result of millions of dollars in research funding. Because of these advancements additional goals of auto manufacturers can be realized. One obstacle battery manufacturers have had is the ability to quickly recharge the battery. In the past if the battery was charged too fast it could explode or catch fire. Additionally, the rate in which the battery was charged at has directly relegated to how long the charge would last. Lithium-ion batteries addressed this issue by allowing accelerated rate of charging with limited damage to the battery.

Hybrid Battery Cut-away

The internal parts of the hybrid battery consist of many smaller cells connected together with an electrical framework. This framework determines which batteries to use and charge depending on the "state of charge" of the cell. Lithium-ion batteries have enabled manufacturers to achieve long awaited goals for battery charge rate and power output capabilities. Even the "lifetime" of these batteries has been extended mainly because in the shift from using lead to copper for the battery contents.

The charging system for the hybrid car is a combination between the combustion engine alternator, regenerative brake system or a "plug in" from an outside source.
